Letter: Follow Burkman’s lead

The Columbian
Published: March 19, 2014, 5:00pm

Kudos to Vancouver City Councilor Jack Burkman for taking a stand opposing Tesoro Corp. and Savage Companies’ proposal to site a terminal for dangerous crude oil just downstream from the heart of Vancouver. I encourage the rest of the Vancouver City Council to follow Burkman’s lead, and take a hard look at the pros and cons of this short-sighted plan. When the risks of flammable Bakken crude oil, the small number of local jobs created, and the damage to quality of life and property values are considered, it’s clear that this project is the wrong one for Vancouver’s future.
