Prep highlights: Washougal baseball posts third win of year

After a winless 2013 baseball season, Washougal isn’t picky about victories.

But Thursday’s 6-5 win over La Center had enough drama to excite even a perennial champion.

Braden Devlin’s two-run home run tied the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Branden Casteel’s fifth hit of the day was a game-winner. He singled up the middle with two outs and a runner on third.

Washougal improved to 3-1 on the season. La Center fell to 2-1.

Stars of the day

  • McKinley LeFore, Camas baseball, threw six shutout innings with eight strikeouts in a 4-2 win over Hockinson.
  • Andrew Haley, Columbia River baseball, went 3 for 4 with a double and 5 RBI in a 9-7 win over Evergreen.
  • Dakota Clemmer, Mountain View baseball, gave up two unearned runs in 52/3 innings with 10 strikeouts ina 4-3 win over Skyview.
  • Jocie Newton, Mountain View softball, went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI in a 7-4 win over Woodland.
  • Shannon Boyle, Ridgefield softball, went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI and pitched two scoreless innings in a 5-1 win over Fort Vancouver.
