West Hazel Dell — Vancouver resident Kathy Young’s fond memories of her dad’s sugar cookies were featured in a recent issue of Ladies’ Home Journal. Though her dad loved “macho activities,” such as hunting, he also had a talent for baking, especially his fluffy and not-too-sweet cookies, Young recounted in the article. “My father died five years ago, but I still make his cookies for my boys,” she wrote. “Whenever we bake Grandpa Gailand’s recipe, I picture that giant yellow tub and dad pressing out the cookies with a tin can in his version of an apron — an old T-shirt and worn-in work jeans.” You can find the recipe on the Ladies Home Journal website.
