Thorns shut out Arizona State in exhibition

Portland Thorns FC completed their two-game preseason women’s soccer schedule with a 5-0 shutout against Arizona State University before 1,032 fans on Sunday afternoon at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.

Portland registered 18 shots while holding the Sun Devils to just five shots.

Columbia River graduate Kat Tarr, who is on trial with the Thorns, played the entire match as a defender.

Allie Long recorded two goals in the first 19 minutes of the match. Also scoring for the Thorns were Jackie Acevedo, Christine Sinclair and Jessica McDonald.

Portland kicks off the National Women’s Soccer League regular season with a road match against the expansion Houston Dash on April 12.
