Letter: Streamline repairs for timely fix

The Columbian
Published: March 31, 2014, 5:00pm

Talk about failure of duty to the public. The damage at the Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls, as seen on TV, appears superficial. There seems to be no damage to structural integrity but a hole in the walk surface and part of the railing missing. To extend the repair until May is OK for final repair, but temporary plywood or steel to cover the walking surface and plywood to replace the railing seems the best answer. To have to rescue hikers who inadvertently end up on the bridge from some of the trails is beyond stupid. I feel certain the material and labor would be available from volunteers.

Let’s get it done.
