The April 23 story “Fort Vancouver site chosen for teacher program” stressed the importance of informing and stimulating interest in our rich historical area. Before the National Park Service assumed control over the Pearson Air Museum, we already had an excellent youth training program in the Vancouver National Historic Reserve, at no cost to the Park Service. The Pearson training seemed consistent with the goals of the Park Service.
It’s time for the Park Service to negotiate again with Fort Vancouver National Trust for an agreement to allow the museum to start living again before it becomes another dead exhibit like the Fort’s bakery. After all, how many times can we visit that one exhibit?
Good management can once again make Pearson the “best little air museum in the West.” Come on, let’s do it.
