Esther Short — Fifty-plus volunteers gathered on April 26 at the downtown offices of FISH of Vancouver to celebrate the food pantry’s 45th anniversary.

In 2013, the extremely busy pantry distributed more than 600,000 pounds of food from its leased ground-floor space at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 1309 Franklin St.; the tight location, just 1,500 square feet, is no longer adequate and the nonprofit agency has won support from the Washington State Legislature to buy its own building.

It needs to raise $500,000 to seal the deal.

Visit fishvancouver.org to learn more, or call FISH President George Kaufer at 360-921-8090 or capital campaign manager Greg Flakus at 360-573-7027.
