Pot retail licenses spur debate in Skamania County

The city of North Bonneville could find itself at the center of the debate over issuance of retail marijuana licenses, the Skamania County Pioneer reported.

First, the North Bonneville Public Development Authority received news that it was disqualified from the state Liquor Control board’s lottery for proposed retail outlets because the proposed store location was within 1,000 feet of a park. However, the “park” was the Lewis and Clark RV Park.

Washington Liquor Board spokesperson Mikhail Carpenter said the agency is consulting with the Washington State Attorney General’s Office regarding the apparent mistake. But another applicant — The Tenth Amendment Trading Co. of Washougal — also listed the same address as the Bonneville Public Development Authority in its application. That application was not rejected. Elevated Organics of Carson also was approved as a qualified applicant.

Because the state is allowing two marijuana outlets in Skamania County, no lottery was needed. But it’s unclear whether a lottery would be held if the state, following the attorney general’s review, allows the Public Development Authority’s application to advance.
