SEATTLE — A bird that died in a collision with an Alaska Airlines plane was a bald eagle.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport spokesman Perry Cooper said Thursday the bird was identified by biologists as an “immature bald eagle.”

The April 25 midair collision forced the Montana-bound plane to return to Sea-Tac, where it landed without incident.

The collision had enough force that the bird broke the skin of the Bombardier Q400 operated by airline subsidiary Horizon Air. The bird was still in the plane when it landed.
