Memories of Mom: A hasty mistake

Mother did everything at warp speed; however, she was forever running about five minutes behind. The family would tease her about the mishaps caused by her haste and she would smile and acknowledge it in her sunny nature.

One of my favorites, among the many, was the day she was getting ready for work. She was meticulous about her appearance and had spent considerable time in front of the mirror in the bathroom. Her hair had been shampooed and styled to her satisfaction, and it was just a matter now of the hair spray to keep it in place.

Mom hated the fumes of the hair spray so she took great pains to shut her eyes and completely cover them and her nose with one hand. She prepared for that finishing touch and reached under the sink and grabbed the can with her other hand.

She made several grand sweeps around her head and then opened her eyes to see a full fluff of white foam completely blanketing her hair. In her customary haste, she had picked up the bathroom cleaner!

It became a complete “do-over,” and I think Mom was late to work that day.
