UNIVERSITY PLACE — An agitated man died after fighting with deputies who arrested him Sunday night in University Place.

Residents reported the man had a screwdriver and was screaming for police in an apartment building parking lot.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says deputies found the man out of control, fighting and biting. They used a Taser to take him into custody. He was taken to Tacoma General Hospital where he died.

The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death for 44-year-old Ronald Hillstrom.

The News Tribune reports Hillstrom had prior convictions for assault, kidnapping and drugs.
