Change will come this summer at the top of the Clark College athletic department.

Athletic director Charles Guthrie will become the AD at San Francisco State University. He will remain at Clark through this month and start his new job July 1.

In just shy of three years at Clark, Guthrie has overseen several facility improvements.

“We were able to bring Clark College sports into the community,” Guthrie said. “We increased the program as a brand and made it more visible.”

Guthrie joins a San Francisco State program that competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, part of NCAA Division II.

Before coming to Clark, Guthrie held athletics administration jobs at Cal State Los Angeles and UC San Diego, which are also CCAA schools.

Guthrie said his favorite memories at Clark include watching the men’s and women’s basketball teams grow in ability and stature. Both went on simultaneous 15-game winning streaks this season.

“There were points when we looked around and realized ‘we’ve created something,’ ” he said.
