KALAMA — It took emergency responders nearly an hour to rescue a Kalama-area man from a tough spot after he drove off a ledge on his riding lawnmower, which apparently landed on top of him.

Cowlitz Fire District 5 says he fell about 15 feet Tuesday and landed next to the Kalama River.

A family friend told The Daily News the 72-year-old was transferred to Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver and he was in intensive care with a broken pelvis, cracked ribs and internal injuries.
