The death of a Ridgefield man who jumped off the Ross Island Bridge in Portland last week was ruled an accident by the Oregon State Medical Examiner.

Tyler Fisher, 22, died of blunt force trauma and drowning, according to the agency.

Portland police officers were sent to the east end of the bridge at about 3 a.m. May 15 after getting a 911 report that a shirtless man was leaning over the railing.

When they arrived, a man told the officers that his friend, Fisher, had jumped off the bridge because he wanted to go swimming in the Willamette River.

The Multnomah County (Ore.) Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard and Portland Fire & Rescue searched the river until divers found Fisher’s body late Thursday morning.

The river’s temperature was 56 degrees at the time Fisher reportedly jumped, according to a nearby monitoring station by the Morrison Bridge.
