Salmon Creek — The early February snow storm might have wreaked havoc on many peoples’ commutes, but volunteers from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team made sure that medical professionals got to work safe and sound. The helpers were applauded this month by staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center for their efforts to transport more than 40 nurses and others to and from the hospital. The hospital donated $1,000 to Search and Rescue and presented them with a big basket of first-aid supplies. The volunteers drove more than 1,500 miles during the Feb. 6-9 storm to pick up hospital workers from as far out as Skamania and Cowlitz counties, according to a press release. “It was a critical moment, and we would have had to shut down some of our units without their help,” said Kate Williams, manager of Surgical Specialties at Legacy Salmon Creek.
