Hazel Dell — The second National Bike To School Day was May 7, but Sacajawea Elementary School made it a whole week.

Nonprofit Bike Clark County was enlisted to help fit kids with helmets Monday; many brought their own and got a better fit but BCC also gave away about 20 new helmets to kids who didn’t have one.

Each day after that, students counted vehicles coming into the school parking lot and noted fewer cars and more bikes each day — until the weather went bad.

On National Bike To School Day itself, there were 56 bikes parked in the school bike rack — plus 10 more that came around at the end of the day, pedaled by siblings and parents.
