Letter: Rights should not be ‘selective’

The Columbian
Published: November 1, 2014, 12:00am

Should I wish to marry, I can legally do so in any state in the nation. My cousin, who is in a same-sex relationship, does not have that option.

I have two questions for those who so adamantly oppose same-sex marriage: If sexual orientation is a choice, when, exactly, did you “choose” to be heterosexual? Second, can you please identify exactly where the Constitution declares that the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” applies only to heterosexuals? I have read the Constitution beginning to end, and I fail to find such a passage. How sad that in a “free” country there are those who aspire to control the private, personal lives of others.
