BALTIMORE — Two toddlers were playing with a shotgun in a bedroom when the gun went off and shot a 3-year-old in the leg, Baltimore police say.
The little boy was listed in stable condition after being taken to an area hospital Monday night. Police say the shooting took place at 9:30 p.m. in southwest Baltimore.
The two toddlers were in the victim’s bedroom, where they were “able to access a shotgun,” police said. It’s unclear how the gun ended up in the child’s bedroom. The 3-year-old was shot one time in the lower leg, police said.
Detectives interviewed witnesses and went through physical evidence to arrive at their conclusion, police said. Baltimore prosecutors are working with police to determine if anyone should be charged in the shooting.
