Kaiser Permanente Hospice seeks volunteers to support patients and their families, at home or in facilities, by reading or playing cards together, or visiting. Office volunteers are also needed to call patients’ homes, providing a voice of compassion.

AARP Tax Aide is looking for volunteers help taxpayers prepare and file their 2014 tax returns. Training is provided. Volunteers with Spanish language skills are in high demand.

Oregon & Southwest Washington Blood Program is looking for volunteers to promote blood drives, others to register donors, and monitors to serve refreshments and watch to see that donors feel well after donating blood.

Vancouver Housing Authority seeks program leaders, Spanish translators, tutors and youth program assistants.

Meals on Wheels People seeks drivers and substitute drivers to deliver meals to homebound people. Dishwashers, packers, servers, hosts and office helpers are also needed.

Volunteer Center is looking for information booth volunteers at Clark County Superior Court and at the Public Service Center. Substitutes are also needed.

Vancouver School District seeks volunteers for the Walking School Bus program at Walnut Grove Elementary. Volunteers walk an identified route, picking up students going to school or dropping them off on the way home.

The county commissioners seeks to fill a position on the Animal Protection & Control Advisory Board for two-year term beginning Jan. 1.

Board meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, four times per year at Clark County Operations Division, 4700 N.E. 78th St., Vancouver.

The 10-member board reports to the county commissioners and Vancouver City Council at least once a year to recommend modifications to county code and general operations of the Animal Protection & Control Program, acts as an appeals hearing board, volunteers at outreach and fundraising events, and promotes the program and its licensing of all dogs and cats.

The county commissioners seek to fill openings on the Substance Abuse Advisory Board for three-year terms beginning in January. Applicants may not be providers of alcohol or drug addiction treatment services. People with diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences and perspectives are encouraged to apply. The board makes recommendations regarding drug and alcohol issues to the county commissioners and county program manager.
