Vancouver Public Schools has received a national award for its Family-Community Resource Centers. Vancouver is one of almost 50 districts nationwide and one of only four Washington districts honored with a District of Distinction award from District Administration magazine. The district’s network of 13 centers was recognized in the public/private partnerships category.
Coordinators at the school-based centers work with community partners to provide basic needs assistance, parent academies, early childhood education, before- and after-school programs, connections to community-based services and more.
From 2009-10 to 2013-14, the centers’ partnerships increased from 22 to 733; volunteers increased from 673 to 2,660.
Almost 2,500 students participated in before- and after-school enrichment and learning programs during the 2012-13 school year, an increase of 72 percent from 2010-11.
