Skyview outlasts Skyline in double-overtime football playoff win

Braden Hadfield made a 26-yard field goal in the second overtime and the Storm made a goal-line stand to cap a rally from a pair of 21-point deficits to advance to the Class 4A state playoffs.

Zac Shomler threw four touchdown passes, one for 70 yards to Jeremiah Wright on a flea-flicker play with the Storm trailing 31-10.

Skyview seized momentum with that play as Josh Emmy took a handoff then pitched back to Shomler for the deep pass that Wright ran into the end zone.

“That’s about as an exciting game as you could ever have,” Skyview coach Steve Kizer said. “I’m just really happy for the kids, being down by 21 and still coming back and not giving up.”

Shomler, who connected with Bryson Enge on a 10-yard scoring pass to get Skyview within 24-10 at halftime, threw touchdown passes of 21 yards to Marcus Lord in the third quarter and 23 yards to Wright in the fourth to tie the game.

Hadfield missed a field goal attempt on the last play of the game that would have won it, and another try at a game-winner after Skyline fumbled on its first play of overtime.

He delivered in the second extra period, giving Skyview a lead that the Storm preserved by stopping Rashaad Boddie on fourth down from the 1.

Hadfield made a 29-yard field goal for Skyview’s first points after trailing 17-0.
