Pilots use fast start to beat Concordia, 87-59

PORTLAND — Kevin Bailey scored 22 points, 16 in the first half, as Portland used a fast start to post an 87-59 win over NAIA-Concordia on Friday night.

The Pilots used an 8-2 run to close out the first half with a 19-point lead, 39-20 and opened the second half with a 12-0 run that left them with a 31-point lead.

Bailey converted 9 of 11 shots from the floor and was 3 of 6 from the line. Thomas van der Mars added 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pilots.

Portland shot 50.8 percent from the field, connecting on 33 of 65 shots, but was just 4 of 16 from three-point range and converted just 17 of 29 free throw attempts.

Kory Kirwan came off the Concordia bench to score 10 points and was the only Cavalier to reach double figures.

The Cavaliers were held to 18-for-59 shooting from the field.
