PORTLAND — Searchers on Saturday continued looking for a 39-year-old Bend man who fell from a mountain this week.

Ben Newkirk fell off the south-east ridge of the Middle Sister mountain in the Three Sisters Wilderness on Wednesday.

Searchers say heavy snow accumulation means the threat of an avalanche is high.

Police have asked the public to stay out of the area. The search includes airborne and satellite searches of the ground, and police are concerned that visitors to the area could accidentally leave evidence that could confuse searchers.
