The Southwest Clean Air Agency on Monday announced an immediate burn ban in Clark County because of stagnant weather patterns and deteriorating air quality.
The ban is a Stage 1 ban, which prohibits the use of all fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves generally made before 1990. All outdoor burning is also prohibited, according to the clean air agency.
The burn ban does not apply to people whose only source of heat is wood burning.
A high-pressure system moved into the region over the weekend, and is expected to linger until midweek. The stagnant air has caused fine-particle pollution levels to increase, according to the clean air agency.
The ban will remain in place until conditions improve, according to the clean air agency.
