SUMNER — J.C. Penney has announced the closure of its Sumner distribution facility on or about Feb. 6.

The state Department of Labor and Industries reported Thursday that the company had said it would lay off 112 employees effective Jan. 16.

Penney spokesman Joseph Thomas later confirmed the state report.

Eligible associates who leave the company will receive separation benefits, and, Thomas wrote, “if possible, we will assist associates in identifying other job opportunities at nearby J.C. Penney stores.”

Also, all workers will be offered a two-day career training class, he stated.
