PENDLETON, Ore. — The rain moving into the Northwest Thursday is falling as freezing rain in the Columbia River Gorge and other parts of eastern Oregon and Washington where temperatures have been below freezing for more than a week.

The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory Thursday morning for the Gorge and Hood River Valley, including Hermiston and Pendleton. The area of freezing rain also covers parts of Washington including Yakima, the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla.

Some Columbia Gorge schools and schools in Pasco and Richland schools are closed or delayed because of icy roads. The icy conditions also have closed parts of Interstate 82 and Interstate 84.

Forecasters said the freezing rain will turn to just rain by Thursday afternoon.
