PORTLAND — A traffic backup late Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 84 in Portland was one part pre-Thanksgiving holiday crush and one part labor pains.
Portland Fire Bureau Lt. Damon Simmons says emergency crews responding to a highway department report of a stopped vehicle with a woman in labor found the woman in her car on the busy highway.
Simmons says she was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Providence Medical Center.
The spokesman reports that the woman was trying to drive herself to a hospital near her home in Newberg, southwest of Portland. She was not identified.
