Letter: Clerk’s office plays important role

The Columbian
Published: October 3, 2014, 5:00pm

The Columbian’s endorsement of Deanna Pauli-Hammond reminds us that we should take seriously our vote for all offices, rather than focusing on high-profile races. Clark County clerk is one of those less-known functions supporting our important judicial system.

Although incumbent Scott Weber “has done nothing to embarrass his office,” his emphasis on reducing paper hasn’t been a game changer for helping citizens who find themselves embroiled in the judicial process.

Pauli-Hammond brings an unusual set of skills in that she not only has focus on technical details, she is a people person. Her ability to look up from important spreadsheets and see a human on the other side of the desk is what will move the clerk’s office to a new level of professionalism.
