Quick action limits damage in smoker fire

A fire that damaged some siding of a two-story outbuilding in Battle Ground Monday night was caused by a food smoker, according to the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Damage to the building, 8910 N.E. 185th St., was estimated at $10,000, said Deputy Fire Marshal Ken Hill. Damage was minimized, Hill said, by the owner combating the flames with a garden hose and the quick response by firefighters.

Crews from Clark County Fire & Rescue, Fire District 3 and the Vancouver Fire Department responded to the rural property at about 8:45 p.m. to put out the blaze.

There were no injuries.
