Feedback sought on river management plan

An advocacy group has launched an online survey inviting participants to share their vision for the future of the lower White Salmon River.

Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group is developing a long-term conservation plan focusing on salmon and steelhead habitat along the lower 6 miles of the White Salmon River. That stretch of river includes the former site of Condit Dam, which was breached in 2011 and removed in 2012. The dam removal allowed migratory fish to swim upstream for the first time in nearly a century.

The fisheries enhancement group hosted a public meeting on the topic last spring, and hosted another online forum during the summer. The latest survey aims to further hone the goals developed during those meetings, according to the group. Another public gathering is planned for November.

People can take the survey online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/WhiteSalmon. The survey will close at 5 p.m. Monday.
