HERMISTON, Ore. — A motorist in Hermiston, Oregon, got a flat tire at about the worst possible time.

Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan says a pickup driven by 27-year-old Juan Martinez got the flat at a railroad crossing Thursday. When Martinez tried to turn around, the tire got stuck in the tracks.

Martinez and passenger Jessica Kestler ran from the vehicle before it was struck by a Union Pacific train.

The East Oregonian newspaper reports the impact sent the pickup 120 yards, but no one was hurt.

Martinez was cited for careless driving and dangerous movement of a standing vehicle.
