A power outage in the Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek area Wednesday afternoon affected 5,858 utility customers.

The outage was reported at 1:51 p.m. and by 2:35 p.m. power had been restored to everyone, said Clark Public Utilities spokeswoman Erica Erland. Power was rerouted to the affected customers through a different substation.

The cause of the outage is under investigation. Erland said the investigation could take a few days.

In a post to The Columbian’s Facebook page, Karen Burger wrote: “I was driving on 99th Street toward Hazel Dell Avenue and saw an explosion on the top of one of the electrical poles on the left side of the street. It was accompanied by a very loud boom, which was very startling and I figured a transformer went out. The traffic lights and Dutch Brothers (coffee stand) power went off immediately after.”
