SPOKANE — Former Republican state Rep. John Moyer of Spokane has died at the age of 92.

Moyer died last week of complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Moyer was an obstetrician who entered politics late in life.

He was first elected to the state House of Representatives in 1986 and served in the body for 10 years.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell served in the state House with Moyer and said in a statement that there was no kinder soul. She says Moyer worked hard to break down the so-called Cascade Curtain and make sure economic development strategies benefited Spokane.
