ILWACO, Wash. (AP) — A warm-water fish rarely seen in Washington waters washed ashore last week on a beach at Cape Disappointment State Park near the mouth of the Columbia River.

The mola sunfish was nearly 7 feet long and weighed close to 300 pounds.

An interpretive assistant at the park, Rachel Morris, told The Daily Astorian (http://bit.ly/1pwWFl2 ) rangers don’t know why this particular mola landed on the beach. Morris says it’s rare to see one in the ocean sunfish in the Northwest.
