‘Prowler’ in Issaquah family’s garbage is black bear

ISSAQUAH — A family that lives in a heavily wooded area east of Seattle that borders a steep greenbelt ravine has identified the ‘prowler’ poking around in their garbage. It’s a black bear that actually does have a “rap sheet” of sorts.

KOMO-TV reports that it was hours after the fact when Tyson Grumm and his family spotted the bear on their security camera footage — turning a garbage can on its side, lifting the lid, pulling out a white plastic bag of garbage and then dragging his lunch-to-go down into the ravine.

It all happened last Saturday when they were home and nearby in their yard.

Washington state wildlife agent Sgt. Kim Chandler says bears are fattening up for hibernation now. Chandler says the video shows that the bear appears to be “non-aggressive” and “slow-moving” — not a threat.

It also shows an ear tag and collar, which told Chandler that this bear was previously trapped and released. In fact, he thinks it might be one particular bear known as “Napster.” Unless the Issaquah-area bear turns aggressive, Chandler says the state won’t trap him again.
