Letter: Save money by cutting foreign aid

The Columbian
Published: September 9, 2014, 5:00pm

On Saturday, I was privileged to attend the Air National Guard displays at PDX. One of the exhibits was a refueling tanker. When I found out that this excellently cared-for aircraft was built in 1959, I thought this 55-year-old airplane was older than the crew members. Why would our government allow these well-trained individuals to fly around in a 55-year-old aircraft full of jet fuel while they squander billions on foreign aid?

How about cutting foreign aid by 10 percent for the next five years and take some of that huge amount of money and buy these hardworking people some up-to-date equipment?

We could also use the proceeds for some much-needed repairs on the nation’s bridges, roads and other infrastructure.
