Letter: Five councilors adds voice to people

The Columbian
Published: September 17, 2014, 5:00pm

Unlike current county government, with the home rule charter we can: amend it, use initiatives and referendums, and get five county councilors for the price of three because we’re dividing legislative and executive duties so councilors have fewer responsibilities and more appropriate salaries (state legislator pay plus 25 percent).

Two members on the board of freeholders, Joe Zarelli, in a video with Nan Henriksen, (http://bit.ly/XcBVbF), described the home rule charter, “You have two choices … to take what the state gives you or a hybrid where you have to live within state law but have options that local people get to choose about self-governance.” That’s voice, people. Vote “yes.”
