SPOKANE — No charges are expected against a man who shot a pit bull in Spokane because it had attacked his service dog.

Police and the SCRAPS animal control agency say the pit bull was unsecured Saturday when it charged the service dog as they were walking to a store in the lower South Hill neighborhood.

KREM reports the service dog vest saved the 10-year-old German shepherd named Toby from serious injury. The wounded pit bull was rushed to emergency care.
