MISSOULA, Mont. — An official says an abandoned trailer containing up to 37,000 pounds of rotten chicken has been towed from a truck stop to a western Montana landfill.

Alisha Johnson of the Missoula County Health Department says the trailer was towed a few miles along Interstate 90 Friday morning without any problems. She says the load is being dumped in a freshly dug pit at the landfill near Missoula.

Police say the trailer might have been sitting at the Flying J Truck Stop west of Missoula for a month before it was discovered this week with rancid juices from the cargo dripping onto the pavement.

Authorities are searching for the driver, who apparently abandoned the load when his trucking company refused his demands for money before its delivery to Kent.
