Deer Park officers investigating concerns about animal cruelty in a Deer Park home north of Spokane found 140 animals living in unsanitary conditions.
KREM-TV reports that the SCRAPS animal protection officers who found the animals on Friday called it a “deplorable situation.” They said the conditions at the home were “horrific.” The owners told the officers that they wanted to start a farm.
The officers said a rough count included 64 rabbits, 72 chickens, two turkeys, four goats, three pigs and three dogs.
Some of the animals did not have water while others had water that was dirty with algae or feces. The property was covered in garbage, hazardous debris and animal waste. Some of the animals were in small cages and others stood in their own waste.
All of the animals were taken to a veterinary center. After they recover, they will be put up for adoption.
