Many state and federal agencies have announced free access to their sites today in the annual observance of National Public Lands Day.

Locations include Fort Vancouver National Historic Site; the National Park Service site is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission said that day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks. The Discover Pass is a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit.

Other federal land management agencies offering free admission today include the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service.

National Public Lands Day started in 1994 to increase awareness of the value of all public lands, to foster shared stewardship of America’s national resources and to encourage people to volunteer.
