PREP HIGHLIGHTS: Martin’s home run lifts Ridgefield to win over Washougal

Two-out blast caps wild finish

Michael Martin hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Ridgefield baseball team to a 6-5 win over Washougal on Tuesday.

Martin’s blast capped a wild finish to the 2A Greater St. Helens League game.

Washougal led 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth when the host Panthers rallied for three runs capped by Jonah Roberts’ two-run double.

Ridgefield was an out away from sealing the win in the top of the ninth when Blaine Bea’s two-out, two-run double gave Ridgefield a 5-4 lead. Grant Mersinger went the distance to earn the win for the first-place Spudders. Michael Hickey went 3 for 3 with a double for Washougal.

Stars of the day

• Trevor Huddleston, Woodland baseball, threw a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts and one walk in a 1-0 win at Hockinson.

• Mitch Lines, Hockinson baseball, struck out 12 in a 1-0 loss to Woodland.

• Garrett Wellman, King’s Way Christian baseball, went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and run scored as King’s Way Christian split a doubleheader with Kalama by winning the nightcap 7-2.

• Alex McGarry, Columbia River baseball, went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs and three RBI in the Chieftains’ 16-11 win over Prairie.

• Mitchell Pinney, Hockinson boys soccer, scored the lone goal of the match as the Hawks remained in first place in the 2A GSHL with a 1-0 win over Mark Morris.

• Eli Whitmire, Woodland boys track and field, won the 100, long jump and triple jump in a win over Mark Morris.

• Alexandria Dixson, Battle Ground girls track and field, won the 100 and 200 meters and the long jump in a meet with Skyview.

• Sarah Retter, Woodland girls track and field, won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump in a win over Mark Morris.

• Hunter Anderson, Prairie soccer, scored from a free kick in the first half as the Falcons beat Fort Vancouver 1-0.

• Sergio Sandoval, La Center boys soccer, had 10 saves as the Wildcats beat first-place White Salmon 1-0 in overtime.

• Max Randle, Battle Ground baseball, went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI in the Tigers’ 11-6 win over Skyview.

• Gerardo Nuñez and Eric Barroso, Hudson’s Bay boys soccer, each converted a penalty kick in the tie breaker as the Eagles beat Woodland 3-2 for their first win.

• Rafiq DeJesus and Jack Kolosvary, Columbia River soccer, both had a goal and an assist in a 3-3 tie against Kelso.
