EUGENE, Ore. — The president of Eugene’s NAACP chapter is saying his sister was beaten before being arrested.

The Register-Guard reports Eugene-Springfield NAACP president Eric Richardson said in a news release Monday that his sister was beaten by police while she was trying to prevent officers from using a Taser on her 19-year-old son.

Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns said in a statement that the incident was related to a mental health crisis about a person who was not Ayisha Brown.

Records show Brown was arrested but not formally charged with interfering with police.

The NAACP is set to hold a news conference Tuesday.

Kerns said he plans to speak with reporters about the incident after the news conference.
