New fire closes trails, roads on south side of Mount Adams

TROUT LAKE — Ten trails on the south side of Mount Adams, plus two Gifford Pinchot National Forest roads, are closed as a fire burning on the Yakama Indian Reservation has moved west.

Roads Nos. 80 and 82 are closed at the Gifford Pinchot boundary, the Forest Service announced this afternoon.

Closed trails include Snipes Mountain No. 11, Stagman Ridge No. 12, Shorthorn No. 16, Buck Creek No. 54, Pineway No. 71, Crofton Butte No. 73, Salt Creek No. 75, Lookingglass Lake No. 9A. Gotchen Creek No. 40 and Mount Adams Summit No. 183.

The South Climb route to the summit of Mount Adams is closed.

The Cougar Creek Fire started Monday and has been estimated at 6,000 acres.
