SEATTLE — A campaign opposing the proposed $930 million Move Seattle transportation levy is suing the city over the ballot title.
The Seattle Times reports the Keep Seattle Affordable campaign wants a judge to remove language in the ballot title referring to the Move Seattle levy as a replacement for the $365 million Bridging the Gap levy, which expires this year. Those behind the campaign say the levy proposal is entirely new and has nothing to do with the past one.
Representatives of the mayor and council didn’t respond to requests for comment.
The new measure, which would appear on the Nov. 3 ballot as Seattle Proposition 1, would raise property taxes for nine years. Opponents argue that the levy measures are making Seattle unaffordable and are affecting poor people disproportionately.
