ILWACO — Anglers continue to average about 1.5 salmon per rod in the ocean off southern Washington and northern Oregon.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reported today that for the Columbia River ports last week there were 6,020 angler trips with a catch of 1,795 chinook and 7,129 coho. That’s a catch average of 1.48 per rod. The daily bag limit is two fish, but no more than one chinook.

Through Sunday, sportsmen have taken 41 percent of coho quota and 35.5 percent of the chinook guideline for the waters between Cape Falcon in Oregon and Leadbetter Point in Washington.

At Westport, Wash., the catch is slower at 0.8 fish per rod.
