Woodland Public Schools is hosting a grand opening ceremony Aug. 31 to introduce the community to its new high school campus.

This summer, construction crews finished building a 154,000-square-foot Woodland High School campus at 1500 Dike Access Road. Altogether, the building is expected to accommodate a growing student population for several decades.

The campus was built with a number of cost-saving measures in mind, including cheaper exterior walls made of concrete instead of brick. With a greater capacity, the new campus will also be safer for students, officials said, having no portable classrooms outside.

The grand opening celebration starts at 6 p.m., and the district is asking people to show up at the main entrance about half an hour early.

The evening will begin with an introduction by Superintendent Michael Green and the national anthem performed by the school’s jazz choir.

After a flag-raising ceremony, a team that led the design process for the new campus will hold a ribbon-cutting and open the doors for tours.
