BANKS, Ore. — A Banks firefighter was taken to a hospital with smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion after battling a brush fire Saturday along Highway 26 west of Manning.

He was taken to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, said Mitchell Ward, a Washington County Fire District 2 spokesman. Highway 26 was closed for several hours due to helicopters dropping water on the flames.
