Letter: Funding parks essential to livability

Parks are important to the health and well-being of a community. In 2005, voters approved the Greater Parks District to maintain parks. The residents of the Sorenson neighborhood in Felida have been awaiting the development of our neighborhood park since the economic downturn in 2011.

With improvement in home sales and development, our park district now has the amount needed to develop our neighborhood park. Unfortunately, the Clark County councilors have not currently agreed to fund maintenance, which would mean our park will not proceed as planned in 2016. The 2 percent proposed property tax cut may also negatively impact the funding needed to maintain the park.

Neighborhood parks allow communities to come together. We have a neighborhood full of kids (and adults) who have been waiting for a safe place to play, walk, throw a football and sled in the wintertime. Please help us achieve our goal of getting our park developed in 2016, and e-mail the councilors to support maintenance funding for Sorenson and all the neighborhood parks.
