A man was convicted Tuesday of attacking another man with a tree branch.

David A. Kesler, 51, was found guilty in Clark County Superior Court of second-degree assault, stemming from the altercation at a Vancouver home in July.

The jury reached its decision Tuesday afternoon after deliberating for about two hours, Deputy Prosecutor James Smith said Thursday. There was only about a day’s worth of testimony, he said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim, Michael Deschner, told police that Kesler tried to strike him in the head with a branch at a residence at 7505 N.E. 53rd Ave. He said he put up his arm to block the blow and Kesler struck his arm, breaking it. A doctor confirmed the break was consistent with Deschner’s story, the affidavit said.

Smith said because of Kesler’s past felony convictions, he is potentially facing 22 to 29 months in prison.

Kesler will be sentenced Dec. 17.
